Ideal version of feminism

My ideal version of feminism in the 21^st century would be to have women looked at as equal as men for the majority of things, yet stay a woman.  I think that now a day’s many women are starting to stray away from the previously known role of a woman, wanting for example:  better jobs or more rights or more freedom.  They are straying away from the motherly role they were “built” to lead.  The more equal a woman becomes to a man the less “motherly” they are. I agree that a woman should be able to do whatever job they want to do and that they should be able to believe and stand up for whatever they want to but they should not be looked at as equal to a man in every aspect.  A woman cannot protect a family as much as a man can, a woman cannot make the same amount of money as man can (Jonathon stated today that even if a man and a woman are doing the same job the man will make more money doing it) a woman cannot be taken as serious as a man can be taken.  There are many things that a woman cannot do that a man has no problem doing so why in the world would we treat them equal.  Yes a woman should work and help provide for her family but a woman’s role in providing for the family is to stay home and care for the children, that not meaning that she needs to be at home while the kids are away for example at school or whatnot but say she gets them up and ready for school and drops them off on her way to go to a job in which she will get off of in time to pick the kids up from school.  A woman needs to be able to interact with society and adults but her main “job”; role in life is to be a mother.  So I guess I’m trying to say an ideal version of a woman for me in the 21^st century is one who provides for her family, is classy, nurturing, yet educated and successful. 

Gender equality, family, and status should be the most important thing in the next century.  Everyone is worried about working so hard and making all this money.  Just as Lisa stated earlier today, “why do we work so hard to be so busy?”  She asked a great question because if you’re striving to have the best job and tons of money  by working 100 hours a week then how in the hell are you going to be able to enjoy what you have earned.  Why work tremendous amounts of hours to be able to put your kids through sports or activities yet you’re not even there to watch them play.  Some people are to the point that they have to hire a driver to take their kids to their sport games or whatever. Seriously what is the point of that?  Your kid is going to be spending all this time practicing to play this last championship game that you won’t ever be able to make it to cuz your working and then he is going to end up hating the sport probably because it will always remind him of how you weren't there.  Now I know that is extreme but I think it’s true.  People to take a step back and realize that life is not all about work and having the nicest things or the most things, it’s about making the most about what you have and enjoying life.  People need to not focus all their energy on work and “things” but focus more on family.

Problems were facing for 2013

One problem that I was most concerned about today was the cyber security…yes I know that it is a huge deal for the national view of things the whole Iranian deli mea and the Israel stuff but honestly that doesn’t affect me personally.  I am more worried about people hacking my personal information or my family’s information more.  I mean yes I care that the world could change drastically if someone hacked some super important system and jacked without stuff but I know nothing about that sort of stuff and I truly don’t even think that it will personally effect me if it does happen.  Let’s be honest, if something bad happens like the national security system gets hacked, I’m almost certain that the government/military will fix it or at least keep putting a Band-Aid on it before the general public is affected.

Kim and Brittany did a very good presentation on oil or lack thereof for that matter.  During this class I feel that the oil drought has been drilled into my mind and I need to probably not consume energy and gas and what not near as much but… I was raised a certain way and I am set in my ways and like I said with the security issues I don’t think it will affect me enough to change my every day way of living.  And actually that’s probably why I have never heard of any of this information before beginning this class… because the government handles it and its going to be fine

The End of Suburbia

The end of suburbia is obviously coming due to many factors in our world.  One being the highways replacing the country land.  Back in the day many people wanted to move away from farm/country land and move into the “city” life.  Now people want to move away from city life but they don’t want to be in country life they want a mix of both… what our society has named “suburbia,” a mixture of the two.  The only problem is the people living in suburbia are still experiencing negatives of both worlds now actually, for example, they are driving extensive lengths to get to work or stores or whatever like in country life yet they are still closely living next to their neighbors, they are still in close proximities to a local store or food chain.

Another reason is in relation to the 2003 black out.  That was a huge ordeal, millions of people lost power, but the thing about it is that it was not due to a fluke in the system or a break in anything, it was really due to the American people were using clearly too much energy at one time and the system couldn’t take it so it simply shut down.  You would think that once society realized that was the reason they would change their way of life however they more just thought of it as a situation where they could get angry with the government and the power companies or what not.  They didn’t change their way of living or their way of thinking for that matter.  If people continue to live as if the world supply of things is never ending then it is bound to run out.

My reaction to this film is that people are crazy… the world is crazy…. Its extremely surprising to me to learn about the oil and energy supply or lack thereof for that matter, I mean let’s be honest I don’t not follow things like that.  As long as I have a light that’s working in my house and gas to fill up my car to get my child to school or the play place I am content.  I would never even consider thinking of how much energy I use at my house.  But to hear what they were saying on that film was intense.  To think of the possibility that we might run out of the supplies to make my everyday life run properly is terrifying.  Even if it is not in my life time I don’t want it to be in my daughter’s life nor her daughter’s life.  I just wish that people weren’t so ridiculous and wasteful. Yet honestly I wish I knew how I could be less ridiculous and wasteful but how can I, how can they if this is all I know, all they know.

Are the four different types of punishment one might get for committing a crime. 

Retribution is mainly about for example if a person kills your brother… you are going to be super mad and want to kill them right so by the law punishing the person who killed your brother and putting them in jail or whatever… you won’t be able to come into contact with him and then you won’t be able to kill him or even harm him for that matter.

Deterrence and public education is actually great. Its how the law will educate the public on all the crimes you have committed such as the sex offenders website… if you commit a sex related crime then your info gets put on that site and anyone can see it.  So by all your neighbors being able to know your history and see you have been in trouble in the past for attacking women who go running alone at night… ya know most likely the people who know you live in their neighborhood probably won’t go running alone at night leaving you no room to be instigated in committing another crime. Also another way to look at public education is by the law telling the public every detail of what is going on in a certain case the public is seeing what shitty things are happening to the suspect and then hopefully they are putting two and two together and saying hey… I don’t ever want to have to go through that, so maybe I shouldn’t commit that same crime.

Incapacitation is jail… we all know that.  If you commit a serious enough crime then you will go to jail.  But one thing that is ridiculous about jail is that the only thing that jail is doing well definitely at first is making people more pissed off that they are in jail.  For example if someone goes to jail who doesn’t really think they should be there in the first place and they don’t have to stay there very long then they are most likely not learning anything from the experience.  They are just “doing their time” and waiting to get out so they can go back to their normal life and be losers again. Possibly even bigger losers because now they can’t even get a decent job or place to live because they have such a shitty record.

Rehab is a “punishment” if you commit a crime and have to go and get help on the “problems” that you have.  For example, if you get busted for alcohol the law is going to make you take some form of alcohol rehab… same with drugs, violence, anger, any degree of a crime has a rehab program that goes along with it.  These so called criminal who go take these rehab programs are actually in the surroundings hearing why and learning and start to realize what they did was wrong, why it wrong, and how they can fix it.  And most importantly enough the goal of the rehab is so that not only do they not do it again but they don’t want to do it, they have no urge or desire.

So in my opinion (for this class assignment only) is that not to put people in jail or prison or whatever but to have the “punishment for a crime be very super strict rehab.  Many people go to rehab and then relapse… but honestly think that there are more people who go to jail and break the law again…usually the same law, or at least related, then people who relapse once have participated in good rehab program.   The people who make the laws should spend more time and money and energy on fixing these messed up people by enforcing rehab programs for criminals.  Keep them strict of course and don’t let people “graduate” from the program if they are ready, if they have not truly changed their way of thinking and acting.

What insights did Tuesday’s election give us into the changing dynamics of American society?

They are saying that women in America made a huge impact on this year’s election.

 Support:

Even though not as many women voted in 2012 as they did in 2008 they still influenced this year’s election greatly. Right now there are more women in senate then there ever has been. Not to mention never before seen (in senate) type of women.  For example: the first openly lesbian senator (Democrat Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin), the first Asian-American woman (Democrat Mazie Hirono of Hawaii).

 
Insights:

The article stated that "What changed in this election was that women accumulated power in a calm and measured way, and began to look for the first time much less like outsiders to the political process." They are hoping to have women more of the "norm" of politics. In early times to have a woman want to vote, or participate in politics in any way was un heard of.  Now days it’s not unheard of, like I mentioned earlier, more women voted in this decade than ever before. Although the women did not all have the same point of view on the discussion, for example, it showed more married women voted for Romney and more single women voted for Obama, they still stood up for the gender of females and made historic firsts.

Mixing Bowl:

In our society many years ago and even today in some cultures women did or do not have much say. Almost as if men rule and control them. When women were given more rights, being able to vote, being one of them, not many took advantage. Mainly only the single ones who didn’t have a man who told them what to say or do or act for that matter.  Hopefully now that more and more women have realized how they can make a difference on what goes on in the country they will start participating more.  I personally think that they have, and that is why Obama won.  I didn’t follow the election too much nor do I even know what was debated other than what I have heard Jonathon talk about in class. He mentioned one topic of abortion... I’m guessing someone was trying to say abortion should not happen... in this article it stated that many women were actually against that argument and so I assume some they felt they needed to vote to be able to have their opinion heard.  Now that our country has seen how much impact women can make they should start taking them more seriously, and not only men taking them more seriously but women as well.  Many women I think don’t do many things or speak their mind due to the fact that they think men will just blow them down or like I said not take them seriously, but I’m hoping now they don’t think like that.  A change in the society is happening.  Truly men and women are becoming more equal opposed to how it was back in the day.  Imagine what will happen when the day comes a woman becomes president and then the men rulers of the other countries will have to respect her because she is a president.  For example the countries who don’t think women are even anything of importance other than to mother their children and wash their clothing. The men of those countries, at first I’m sure will put on a front and act all respectful in front of the people who it matters but behind closed doors they will mock the women and disrespect them tremendously.  But when years pass and they see that women are just as equal and they can get the job done as well as men or even better, it could possibly lead to a change in their culture as well, allowing women more rights.
